The SMG program is fortunate to receive contributions from across the finacial services industry spectrum.
Our major sponsors and the activities they support are described below.
SMG thanks all of them for helping to make our program possible. Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Member FirmsMember firms of SIFMA provide generous annual support that is critical to SMG's operations, which includes: curriculum development, teacher training, student awards, grants to local programs around the country, and are the sole underwriters of the national InvestWrite essay competition. Merrill LynchIn 2005, Merrill Lynch made a groundbreaking commitment to support SMG in multiple ways. It created innovative partnerships with inner-city schools, the National Basketball Association and SMG as part of its Investing Pays Off program. Merrill Lynch also supports SMG by funding student access, teacher training, and awards for statewide programs in California and Massachusetts as well as funding to State Councils on Economic Education in Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The McGraw-Hill CompaniesThe McGraw-Hill Companies, parent of Standard & Poor's, provides FIE with funds to develop math curriculum and teacher training material for its SMG-specific publication, Math Behind the Market. In addition, McGraw-Hill Companies employees have provided invaluable guidance and expertise as one of the nation's leaders in curriculum development. Wachovia SecuritiesFor the past three years, Wachovia Securities has partnered with the SMG program to disseminate its inventive educational concept: Financial Advisor in the Classroom. This firm-wide initiative recruited teachers and expanded student participation by making financial advisors available for educational presentations in classrooms nationwide. The NYSE FoundationSince 1984 the New York Stock Exchange Foundation has been stalwart in its financial support of SMG. Its contributions are critical to curriculum development and teacher training. NYSE Euronext also provides opportunities for SMG students and teachers to ring the opening or closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange and holds free workshops every summer to teach teachers about financial literacy, which always includes a seminar on SMG. Reuters, LTDOne of the most compelling aspects of the SMG for students is being able to research and trade real stocks and mutual funds in the real market at real prices. None of this would be possible without the in-kind market data and research provided by Reuters, LTD. Since 1999 Reuters has supplied this valuable information free-of-charge to SMG teachers and students. A.G. EdwardsSince 2004, A.G. Edwards has sponsored team participation fees, teacher workshops, and community-wide awards ceremonies for the SMG program in St. Louis, Missouri; Denver, Colorado; and Southern Illinois. This generous support has helped the SMG reach more students and more schools every year in those communities. The Investment Company InstituteThe Investment Company Institute Education Foundation (ICIEF) and the SMG are Building an Understanding of Stocks and Mutual Funds via their general operating support and the continual development of mutual funds curriculum in the SMG. ICIEF also funds a pioneering version of the SMG based solely on mutual fund investing. PNC Financial Services Group, Inc.Beginning in 2005, PNC Bank has generously sponsored the SMG program for schools in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties in Northern New Jersey. PNC's grant funds the SMG student-team participation fees, teacher workshops, as well as the local InvestWrite essay contest and awards ceremonies. Morgan StanleyAs part of its Urban Schools Financial Education program, Morgan Stanley provides much needed access to SMG in Title One schools in Atlanta and Baltimore/D.C. Its thoughtful support sponsors team fees, workshops, and awards ceremonies for students and teachers who without their help would not be able to participate. | |||
